“I’m A Perfectionist”: Victoria Beckham Unveils A Long-Awaited Addition To Her Beauty Brand

“I just invested in a tripod,” Victoria Beckham– fashion designer, beauty brand founder and former Spice Girl – tells me over the phone. “Until quite recently, I was holding the camera in one hand and using the other hand to do my make-up. There were so many comments asking why I was only showing one side of my face. I thought, ‘Give me a break!’” she laughs. “But I did take the hint and I got myself a tripod.”

We’re connecting to discuss the latest addition to her Victoria Beckham Beauty empire: brushes. It would be easy to assume the brand already did tools – and, in a way, it does. The one-sold-every-30-seconds Satin Kajal eyeliners are dual-ended, one for colour, one for easy smudging. The Contour Stylus lives in a thin component designed to be used as a crayon would be – scribbled on and smudged in with fingers or bristles. The Concealer Pen, a September 2024 launch, is deposited via a short, flat brush tip. A set of standalone tools, though, is a first. “I spent a lot of time thinking about these brushes and what it was that I desired and couldn’t find,” Beckham says.

I press her – surely Beckham, who’s spent hours (if not days) of her life sitting in the most esteemed of make-up artists’ chairs, has sampled every brush on the market. What is it that she felt was missing? “My focus is always on the ‘why’ and the brushes that have made it into this collection have earned their place and right to be there.

They’re inspired by calligraphy pens,” she says, noting the precision and consideration that goes into the creation of each of the nine brushes in the collection. And they really are precise. The majority are single-ended, created to buff, dust and disperse. Two are double-ended – and when I ask Victoria to pick her favourite, it’s one of these she points to. “I do love the Sculpt & Blend, because there’s so much you can do with it. I use it for my contour but also my eyes.”

Famously meticulous, if the brushes weren’t absolutely perfect in Beckham’s view, she would have cancelled them. She pulled the plug on the original Contour Stylus due to it not being the exact, thin, precise tool she had envisioned. In fact, it was originally housed in the component the Cheeky Posh Blush lives in. “I called them and said, ‘Listen, I’m so sorry and I know no one’s going to be happy to hear this but we have to stop.’ I’m quite hard to satisfy,” she confirms. “I’m a perfectionist and I’m hard to please – which I think is a good thing. Because, when I’m happy, it means that we’re ready to release it.”
