Camila Giorgi: A Journey of Tennis Success and Personal Challenges

Camila Giorgi was born in Macerata in 1991. Her father and mother, Claudia Fullone, are Argentine. Her mother is a fashion designer, while her father has been her coach throughout her career. She is considered one of the best Italian tennis players of all time. She has won four major circuit tournaments on hard courts, including the prestigious Canadian Open in 2021 in Montreal. In the world rankings, she reached the 26th position in October 2018 and in June 2022. She is the Italian tennis player with the best winning percentage against top 10 and top 20 players and the most successful Italian player on grass.

The Family

Camila has two brothers: Leandro and Amadeus. Her sister Antonela died in 2011 following a car accident.

At the age of five, she began dedicating herself exclusively to tennis, becoming one of the best Italian tennis players of all time. She had a romantic relationship for some time with fellow player Giacomo Miccini, with whom she was supposed to marry in 2017, but the relationship eventually ended.

Boyfriend

During a series of questions on Instagram, a follower asked Camila if she was in a relationship. The answer was “Yes,” accompanied by a photo of her next to a young man. It is speculated that Camila’s new partner might be American.

The Retirement

Her retirement from tennis was discovered precisely when the Guardia di Finanza was trying to notify her of an act, a notice of conclusion of investigations by the Prato prosecutor’s office for the accusation of failure to declare income in 2016 and tax evasion. It is not the only proceeding for tax offenses in which the athlete is involved. For not having filed the income tax return for 2013 and 2014, the Prato court acquitted her in December “because the fact does not constitute a crime.” She was accused of evading Irpef for 336,000 euros in 2013 and for 410,000 euros in 2014.

The Investigations

Other checks concern other years, always for failure to declare income “which she – state the champion’s own lawyers -, engaged around the world for tournaments and competitive activity, had delegated to her father, who would not have relied on professionals in the accounting administrative sector.” Giorgi’s earnings are known to the tax authorities, “there is nothing to hide; they are the tournament prizes, easily traceable,” “the problem – say the lawyers – is that mistakes were made while Camila was absent. She had entrusted her closest relatives who, however, made significant mistakes” and “when we were able to become aware of the situation, it was too late and it was not possible to fix everything.”
